The obverse/front of the Goldback depicts the personification of “Gratia/Grace”. She is shown kneeling with her hands clasped in her lap, next to a mound of pumpkins. She is accompanied by an adorable otter staring straight ahead at the viewer. Otters are native to New Hampshire and are said to represent grace and empathy.  A wigwam, which is a round shelter used by various northeastern Native American tribes, stands in the background.
  
The reverse/back of the Goldback features a negative image of the front design. This serves as a security feature to better protect the New Hampshire Goldbacks from counterfeiting.
